James
Hi, my name is James Bye and I was born in Ipswich in 1980 (which makes me the youngest member of the group) and have lived in the area ever since.
I left school at 16 and was torn between joining the army or working for my Dad! I took the easy option (or so I thought at the time) and chose to work for my dad at his agricultural engineering company which is where I have gained a wealth of experience in mechanical engineering, welding/fabrication and driving big machines off road!
I’m still there today running the fabrication side of things, which should come in useful when preparing our vehicles.
I joined the TA at Ipswich after being a Royal Anglian cadet to carry on my adventures, which culminated in my ultimate adventure, serving in Iraq for six months in 2003! I haven’t had a proper adventure for a few years so before Andy had finished telling me about his plan I’d already agreed, although how hard can it be to drive a few thousand miles across some of the worlds toughest terrain?!
